Book Buy and Trade Policy

I. We buy, sell, and trade books in good condition. The more like new, the better! You may bring books to us for trade credit or for cash. Trade credit accounts are kept on file in the store and may be applied toward the purchase of any book in stock. Trade credits are good for two years, and can be redeemed for cash (half of your credit) at any time.

II. We buy books based on our intended selling price:

Most paperbackssell for half the original cover price based on a minimum sale price of $2.00;
Hardback fiction is priced according to size and quality (prices are marked inside the front cover);
Nonfiction is priced according to size, with adjustments based on condition and demand;
Children’s books are typically $.50 cents to $4.00, with some larger books priced higher.

III. For books in good condition:

Trade credit: 50% of our selling price;
Cash paid: 25% of our selling price.

IV. Applegarth Books will not be able to buy or trade some books regardless of their condition.

We may not take a popular book because we are currently well supplied;
Books of narrow interest might be highly desirable because we have so few;
A book that we reject today might be highly coveted two months from now;
Applegarth Books does not accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, ex-library books, most textbooks and encyclopedias, most book-club hardbacks, or serial romance novels.

V. Any book rejected for trade or purchase must be picked up within 48 hours of inspection or it will become store property.

VI. We will hold any requested book 10 days after notifying you that we have it in stock.
